Digital infrastructures are also based on building infrastructures and line constructions. This includes building automation, lighting the building and management and those necessary for cable infrastructures in buildings or on public streets. Effective facility management is not possible today without a software supply. These systems and lines can normally not be copied or expanded in a metropolitan region because the insertion of cables is costly and has requirements. As the basic functions of digital infrastructures consist not only of passive elements (copper cables, fiber-glass cables) but also of active power supply components, the functionality of a digital infrastructure always needs a liable power supply at a defined location.
